Joe Cole has admitted that he would love to manage West Ham one day.
Former West Ham United ace Joe Cole has told this month’s edition of Four Four Two that he would love to return to manage the club one day.
Cole, 36, came up through the ranks with the Hammers and was touted for stardom back in the early 2000’s, having shown huge talent and potential at Upton Park.
The playmaker moved onto Chelsea in 2003 following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, racking up almost 300 appearances for the Blues whilst also winning three Premier League titles.
A return to West Ham came after spells with Liverpool and Lille, before Cole moved onto Aston Villa, Coventry City and the Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he remains as his career comes towards its end.
Whilst Cole was an England international, earning 56 caps, he didn’t quite live up to his early potential, and he may be eyeing up a future in the game as a coach.
Given that his playing career is drawing to an end, Cole is starting to think about the future, and he was asked by Four Four Two whether he would want to manage Chelsea or West Ham.
Cole responded by claiming that he isn’t nearly ready for that kind of role, but he is picking up experience as he goes along, and would love to manage West Ham – or Chelsea, or England – in the future.
“They would be dream jobs for a lot of people, but I’ve got plenty of steps to take before I get anywhere near that level,” said Cole. “I’m gaining experience and don’t know where I’ll end up just yet.”
“There are hundreds of roles within a football club, from director of football down to academy roles. But for every player if you love football, you’d love to be manager of England, Chelsea or West Ham,” he added.
