Joe Cole believes Rangers loan move is perfect for Ryan Kent

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly on the verge of bringing Ryan Kent to Ibrox on a season-long loan.

Joe Cole has told MailSport that Rangers is the perfect place for Ryan Kent to continue his development, and suggested that the winger will prove to be the kind of signing that will excite the Ibrox faithful.

MailSport reports that Kent is on the verge of becoming the Gers’ 10th signing of the summer, with the Liverpool starlet set to follow in Ovie Ejaria’s footsteps by heading to the Scottish Premiership for a season.

Kent goes into this campaign off the back of a difficult season where he struggled for game-time with Freiburg before not faring much better in the Championship with Bristol City. But despite his struggles, Cole – who played alongside Kent at Coventry City and alongside Gerrard at Liverpool – believes that Rangers could be pulling off a coup getting a deal done.

“Ryan will have been steeped in what Steven Gerrard’s all about. It looks to me like a perfect fit all round and I’m excited for the lad, I want to see what he can do there,” he told MailSport.

“This is a great move for Liverpool because they feel it will improve him as a player, for Kenty because he’s going to a massive club, and for Rangers because he’s a top young player.

“Rangers have always been a huge club and I’m really excited to see what they can do under Steven this season. I’ll be watching them a lot this year.”

What will certainly encourage Rangers fans is that several of Gerrard’s signings have taken very little time to adapt following their moves to Ibrox. The likes of Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic are amongst those who have impressed the fans already, and so they may feel that they can trust the club’s judgement on those being linked with the Light Blues.

And, while Kent may have endured a difficult year last term, he has shown some real glimpses of quality during his brief career in previous loan spells.

And with some Liverpool fans potentially suspecting that he may need to step up significantly if he hopes to stand a chance of making the grade at Anfield – something that Cole suggested he has the quality to do – Kent should arrive at Rangers fully determined to prove a major point regarding his potential.
