Clinton Morrison has stated that Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey did a ‘good job’ on Marquinhos during Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
The former Crystal Palace striker thought that Marquinhos didn’t get to see some action, as Lamptey, after previous injury problems, was back to his best yesterday.
Even though Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring, it was the away side booking their place into the next round, including Lamptey getting on the scoresheet after a driving run late into the second half.

They haven’t come around often this season, but this is only the fourth time Mikel Arteta’s side have either dropped points or lost a game in all competitions.
That is some going given how deep it is in the season, as Morrison shared his thoughts on the battle between Lamptey and Marquinhos yesterday, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports.
“Not really seen some action because Lamptey has done a good job on him,” said Morrison. “Lamptey is playing as a left wing-back and Solly March as a right wing-back.
“Marquinhos, he has got ability, but it’s going to take time. He’s still a young player. But it’s good to see Lamptey playing football because, a year and a half ago, we were talking about how amazing he was going to be. But he has had a lot of injuries.”

MARQUINHOS GROWING
At 19 and in his first season in English football, and after starting his footballing education in Brazil, this is a learning season for Marquinhos.
The all-action forward just needs to look towards Gabriel Martinelli as a prime example that he should trust the process Mikel Arteta will take him down.
He moved to London as a fresh-faced teenager from Brazil, yet fast forward to the present and he is now going to rep the colours of his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
