West Ham ace Joao Mario spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s wonderful 2-0 away win at Leicester City yesterday, and shared what he and his teammates talked about before the game, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Hammers were superb from the very first whistle against the Foxes, and their win has all but secured their Premier League status for another season.

West Ham fans will be left wondering why their team is languishing near the bottom of the table after yesterday’s display, but it will at least give them confidence that next season could be be far more prosperous.

Mario, who joined the Hammers on loan from Inter Milan in January, addressed the media after his side’s win over the Foxes, and opened up on a pre-match discussion between the players, and how it helped them earn three points against Claude Puel’s men, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“We practised this week. When Marko is playing up front and we’re playing behind him, we need to support him and we talked about that and it happened. It’s good when you practice something and it happens during the game. We also talked about our defending. We pressed well, we defended well and high up. It was important to us, the team have been talking about the problems and on Saturday it was resolved and it made all the difference.”

The Hammers have two games left this season, and a return of six points from those matches could be enough to earn them a top 10 finish.

If West Ham do manage to finish somewhere near the top half, David Moyes will be in with a great chance of earning a permanent deal as manager of football club.

Whether the Hammers fans will be happy with that outcome, though, is another matter entirely.
