Joao Gomes has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the January window, though Wolves are not likely to let one of their key players go so easily in the middle of the season.
Manchester United are looking to add a midfielder next year, with several names already coming up in early reports.
Several potential targets have Premier League experience, including Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.
United made five signings during the summer window but did not bring in any midfielders. This left a noticeable gap following Christian Eriksen’s departure when his contract ended.
Ruben Amorim has stuck with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as his preferred pairing, while Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have had to settle for places on the bench.
It is still unclear whether United will be able to finalise any deals once the winter window opens.
Joao Gomes interested in Old Trafford move

Joao Gomes is another midfielder on United’s radar, though Wolves are not keen to let him go midseason.
That does not rule out a move, though. Every player has a price, and Wolves may be open to the right offer.
The Brazilian is viewed as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, with talks reportedly taking place over a possible deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gomes is eager to complete a transfer to Old Trafford, with the journalist providing an update on the midfielder’s situation.
“Joao Gomes could be one to watch with a player very keen on a move to Manchester United even without European football this season.
“Joao Gomes would be more than happy to go to Man United.
“But this depends on what happens with Wolves and if Man United want to go for an opportunity or wait for their absolute top priorities. So let’s see what’s going to happen there,” Romano revealed.
It appears that United have secured Gomes’ approval for the move. The next step is to reach an agreement with Wolves to finalise the deal.
Joao Gomes once admitted he would play for Liverpool
The Brazilian midfielder has previously spoken about his ambition to play for Liverpool, a club with regular Champions League involvement.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil back in 2022, before his move to Wolves, he said: “Liverpool is a team I would play for.
“I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
