Joao Cancelo’s wife has aimed a clear dig at Man City boss Pep Guardiola on Instagram, after her husband’s loan switch to Bayern Munich, with a £62 million option to buy in place was confirmed on deadline day.
On Monday, it was reported that the £180,000-a-week star was set to join the Bundesliga champions, seemingly out of nowhere. The Daily Mail had reported that a training ground bust-up with the Catalan boss led to both the player and the club sanctioning a move for the 28-year-old.
With the two-time Premier League winner losing his place to Nathan Ake at left-back and Rico Lewis at right-back since the World Cup, it seems things went awry behind-the-scenes.
While Joao Cancelo confirmed that he had no personal issues with Pep Guardiola during his first press conference with Bayern Munich, his wife seems to have confirmed the opposite on her Instagram story.

On her Instagram story, Joao Cancelo’s wife took a subtle swipe at Pep Guardiola, (via Manchester Evening News’ Alex Brotherton) saying, “You were the best full-back on Spain, Italy and England. You are the best in the world. You don’t have to prove anything to anybody anymore.”
Clearly, things were far from rosy in the Man City camp between the player and manager.
In our view: Joao Cancelo and his wife’s hostility does not add up
After a brilliant start to the season, Cancelo’s form declined, albeit he has been overly criticised by a certain section of fans online.
However, with Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis currently being picked on merit, surely the decorated defender could just have waited his turn before reclaiming a spot in the side.
While Joao Cancelo’s wife is spot on about her husband arguably being the best full-back in the world on her Instagram, the dig at Pep Guardiola is unnecessary to put it modestly.
