Rangers’ development and youth squads had a great day on Tuesday.

Two of Rangers’ youth and development sides were in action on Tuesday as they continue progress towards making a push for the Ibrox first-team.
A team that included familiar faces such as Glenn Middleton and Jamie Barjonas took on English League Two outfit Cambridge United at the Hummel Training Centre, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Andy Dallas and Barjonas.
Meanwhile a more youthful U18s side faced Dundee United youngsters in a pre-season friendly, winning 2-1.
Academy Coach Peter Lovenkrands was left delighted by the performance of the development squad in particular against seasoned opponents, telling the official Rangers website: “I am proud of the boys coming up against a League Two team in England who are a very physical team, they have had some really good results in pre-season so for us to go and get a win and a clean sheet is really great for the boys.”
The Gers have struggled in recent years to bring young players through to playing regularly in the senior side, but there will always be hope from fans that the next generation is on the cusp of making serious inroads into Steven Gerrard’s squad.

If the club are to improve and progress over the next few years then blooding academy talent into the side that can compete well in Scotland will be crucial, rather than buying quality in at greater expense.
Supporters, for now, seem buoyed by the performances of the young Gers, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the recent performances…
