Sunderland have completed the signing of Jermain Defoe from Toronto FC, and he has been pictured in the famous red and white stripes.
The Black Cats may have just pulled off the signing to secure Premier League safety for another season. Jermain Defoe has moved to Sunderland from FC Toronto on a three-and-a-half-year deal. Defoe is a proven goal scorer in the Premier League and he is exactly what they need.
Sunderland confirmed he will be eligible for their game on Saturday against his former club Tottenham Hotspur and you wouldn’t bet against him scoring a goal on his debut. In fact Defoe makes a habit of scoring goals on his debut having done so at every club he has represented; West Ham United, Bournemouth, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Toronto.
Speaking to the official Sunderland website Defoe expressed his delight at the move. “It is a great club and I’ve always enjoyed coming up here and playing against Sunderland because of the stadium and the supporters. It is a great place to play and I’m really looking forward to it.”
After the lack of goals for Sunderland this season, Gus Poyet and The Black Cats fans will be eagerly anticipating seeing Defoe in action. Spurs fans meanwhile will be dreading coming up against him at the weekend.
