Bournemouth’s FA Cup third round tie with Burton Albion was called off on Saturday.

The game was called of late in the day meaning many Burton Albion fans had already made the long journey down south only to find out there was no game for them to watch.

The match has now been rearranged and will be played on Tuesday 14th January.

Many Burton fans will now be making the journey down to Bournemouth twice, and the Championship club’s fans have decided to try and help them out.

They decided to club together and try to and raise as much as possible to help fund Burton Albion supporters travel costs for the rearranged game. They managed to raise a fantastic £2,800. A remarkable gesture in what is a difficult economic climate.

Burton Albion fans are now set for free coach travel for the 370 mile round trip if they wish to attend the game. An online supporters donation page was set up shortly after the game was postponed.

They decided to help out Burton thanks to a nice reception they themselves had received from the club. In 2010 Bournemouth clinched promotion from League 2 thanks to a 2-0 victory over Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on the last day of the season.

On that day Bournemouth fans were surprised at the welcoming they received both in the town and at the club and decided to thanks them for that day with their own gesture now.

A message on the fundraising page said “The way our fans were treated that day from the pubs, to the stewards to their fans was just brilliant and has left great memories in many of our fans’ minds.”

It is great to see such a wonderful connection between two clubs in a day and age when there is often so much negativity about football. Hopefully their relationship will continue into the future.

This story just helps the image of the FA Cup too, proving it is a magical competition full of surprises on and off the pitch.
