Arsene Wenger has confirmed Francis Coquelin will miss up to three weeks of action with a knee injury.
Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin will miss around three weeks of action due to a knee injury he picked up in the Gunners’ 3-0 victory over Chelsea on the weekend, according to FourFourTwo.
Arsene Wenger today confirmed the extent of Coquelin’s injury in a pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League meeting with Basel later this week.
Coquelin was forced off just 32 minutes into Arsenal’s stunning 3-0 win over London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, after a challenge with N’golo Kante.
The injury looked to be long-term initially but scan results have revealed the 25-year-old could return before the end of October. The French midfielder has featured six times for Arsenal in all competitions so far this season.
The news will come as a relief for Arsenal fans with a number of key fixtures rapidly approaching. Coquelin will return before Arsenal face rivals Tottenham Hotspur , Manchester United and PSG in November.
As published by FourFourTwo, Wenger confirmed the news. He said: “Francis Coquelin is out for the game – it should be a short-term injury, the scan was quite positive.”
When asked for a definitive time frame for the injury, the Arsenal boss replied: “It could be three weeks”.
Wenger also revealed that Olivier Giroud could miss Sunday’s clash with Burnley due to a toe injury.
