Swansea City 3-1 Liverpool – May 2016
Certainly the most memorable fixture between the two sides for Swansea fans was the South Wales club’s first win since 2012. Liverpool made significant changes and Swansea ensured they took advantage to mathematically secure Premier League safety.
Brad Smith was sent off for the visitors but the damage was done and the goals were scored before the 22-year-old was given his marching orders. Andre Ayew put the Swans ahead before Jack Cork quickly doubled their lead 13 minutes later.
Christian Benteke managed to net for the Reds but the game was finished when Ayew completed his brace and Smith was sent for an early shower.
Liverpool 4-3 Swansea City – February 2014
Certainly one of the most entertaining Premier League affairs in recent years arrived in a Sunday afternoon meeting between the Swans and the Reds.
Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring after just three minutes and Jordan Henderson doubled the lead with a typical stunner from the edge of the box.
Former Red Jonjo Shelvey pulled one back with an even better effort; his strike from outside the box cannoned off the underside of the bar, giving Simone Mignolet no chance of retaining his clean sheet.
An unfortunate deflection from the head of Martin Skrtel allowed Wilfried Bony to pull the Swans back onto level terms but Liverpool took a 3-2 lead before half-time when Daniel Sturridge rounded off a fine team goal.
Martin Skrtel was involved again after the break and again it was an negative contribution, this time hauling Wilfried Bony to the floor and giving the Ivory Coast striker a chance to equalize from the spot, which he dully did.
Liverpool were to have the final say with just 15 minutes remaining when Jordan Henderson bundled home the winner at the second time of asking. An entertaining affair to say the least!
Liverpool 4-1 Swansea City – December 2014
Liverpool comfortably secured all three points from this one in a classy display which left Swansea chasing shadows throughout. Alberto Moreno tucked away Liverpool’s first before Adam Lallana embarrassed Lukasz Fabianski by blocking his clearance and luckily deflecting the ball home from 18 yards.
Gylfi Sigurdsson brought Swansea back within one before Lallana doubled Liverpool’s lead once more with an excellent solo goal. The evening was made even worse for Swansea by midfielder Shelvey who headed past his own goalkeeper to round off the scoring with 20 minutes remaining.
A memorable Anfield evening for the Reds who made it back-to-back wins to end 2014 on a high.
