Cardiff City have struggled to replace former captain Mark Hudson but they have finally found their man.
Cardiff City have failed to replace former skipper Mark Hudson for two years but they may now have their man in new signing Sol Bamba.
Hudson left Cardiff in 2014 and although it was the Bluebirds who engineered the move, he left an almighty hole in the defence, and indeed the whole team.
Then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent shock-waves through the club by surprisingly pulling Hudson aside in training and telling him he would be sold shortly before the transfer window closed.
Hudson was a stalwart for the Bluebirds having played for the club for five years and was a key part in their promotion to the top flight in 2013.
It is fair to say Cardiff never really replaced Hudson and they have not found a leader of his ilk in the two years since he left.
David Marshall took over the captain role after Hudson’s departure but despite his passion there were always doubts over whether he could lead the team from between the sticks. Sean Morrison has now taken the captaincy following Marshall’s departure.
Former Leeds man Sol Bamba joined the Bluebirds last week on a free transfer and had an instant impact by winning Man of the Match and scoring a crucial goal in the win over Bristol City last Friday.
Bamba installed himself as an instant favourite among the Cardiff City supporters and that is down to his ‘leader’ style which fans from this part of the world have always appreciated.
Hudson was known for his no nonsense attitude, both to the opposition and to his own teammates. When things were not going right, he was the man reinstalling the passion into those around him and we saw that from Bamba on Friday evening.
It is early days of course but Bamba fits right into the philosophy of the Cardiff supporters just like Hudson did, and that will give him a real platform to succeed in South Wales.
