Visitors Sunderland had 54% of the possession, took six shots of which four were on target, and earned seven corners, according to BBC Sport.
The win against Shrewsbury means that Sunderland are now third in the League One table with 26 points from 13 matches, seven points behind leaders Portsmouth.
