Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has warned Leeds United that they won’t earn promotion to the Premier League if they fail to make use of their dominance during games.

On Saturday, Marcelo Bielsa’s men recorded a 1-1 draw with Derby County despite the home team being utterly dominant during the game.

Leeds took an early lead in the first half before Klich missed a second-half penalty and Chris Martin then went on to net a stoppage-time equaliser.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (21/09/2019 at 2:45 pm), Hasselbaink urged Leeds to learn from their mistakes because it could prove to be costly as he stated that they can’t allow such dominance to result in them dropping points.

“You have to be more mature,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports. “Yes, you can be dominant here [Elland Road[, but you have to win these games.

“Last season, against Ipswich, against 10-man Wigan and Sheffield United. Totally dominant. You can’t do that again this season. You are not going to earn promotion if you do.”

This was one of Leeds’ problems last season, especially at home, with that defeat to Wigan during the Easter period arguably being the most costly to their hopes of finishing in the automatic places.

Many would back Leeds to finish in the top-six, but given the way they play, and the manager they have at their disposal, they should be finishing in the top-two.

Last season, Leeds were beaten by Derby in the Championship play-off semi-finals, and given the difficulty of the play-offs, there will be a fear amongst fans that they could fall short once again if they continue to make life difficult for themselves.
