Jimmy Butler has carved out a reputation in the NBA not just for his play, but for being one of the league’s more outspoken voices.
And it’s hard to argue with the results. Butler showed once again what he’s capable of during the Golden State Warriors’ recent win over the Chicago Bulls, putting on a display that reminded everyone of his talent.
But it’s not just what he brings on the court that matters. His presence is felt off it as well, whether it’s holding teammates accountable or speaking up when needed.
That approach hasn’t always gone over smoothly, though. There have been times when things didn’t end well, like how his time with the Miami Heat came to a close last season.

Jimmy Butler on what went wrong with past teams
Throughout his career, Butler has been one of the most outspoken players in the league, and it hasn’t always worked in his favour. He’s developed a reputation for being a difficult presence in the locker room.
So why does he so often seem to leave teams with relationships frayed?
“I’m always about winning, winning at all costs. So, when it doesn’t stay about winning, it can become about many different things.
“If it ain’t about winning, I’m telling y’all right now, I’m not here for it,” Butler said on Dubs Talks.
The comments come across as a veiled criticism of some of his former teams, hinting that they had lost sight of their primary goal: chasing a championship.
Jimmy Butler isn’t a fan of NBA teams’ ‘other agendas’
Butler’s drive to succeed in basketball is closely tied to his desire to win, both games and championships.
If the team he’s on loses sight of that and starts focusing on other ‘agendas,’ Jimmy has no problem stepping away from it.
“It’s got to be about winning. Everything we do, it’s got to be about winning. If it’s not and there’s any other agendas, y’all won’t like it because I don’t care,” Butler added.
This shows Butler’s incredible hunger to succeed in the NBA. But as far as the 2025-26 NBA season is concerned, the Warriors are straying away from that path as they have an underwhelming 13-12 record.
