Reports claim the Villans boss is two games from the sack at Villa Park.
Roberto Di Matteo’s position as Aston Villa manager is safe, according to Talksport presenter Jim White.
A report in the Telegraph on Monday had claimed that Di Matteo has two games to keep his job, following a slow start to life in the Championship.
Villa have won just once since their demotion from the Premier League last season, and lie 17th in the standings.
According to the Telegraph, Di Matteo, who was only appointed as Remi Garde’s replacement during the summer, will be held responsible if results do not improve this week.
But White, a well-connected figure within the game, says he has indirectly heard from Villa owner Tony Xia that the Italian is not currently in trouble.
“Somebody very close to the new owner, Dr Tony Xia, told me that he (Di Matteo) has time,” White claimed while presenting his self-titled Talksport radio show on Tuesday.
“No question about it, he has time and he knows he’s been given time.”
Villa face two difficult away games in the next four days, with early-season surprise package Barnsley up first at Oakwell this evening.
And the Villans travel to Deepdale on Saturday, where a resurgent Preston North End side await.
Di Matteo spent close to £60 million in transfer fees in the summer.
