Championship outfit Derby County are apparently up for sale with Mel Morris reportedly in talks with Foster Gillett.
Derby County fans can rest easy; The Rams are not about to be taken over by the son of former Liverpool owner George Gillett. At least, that is what Jim White has told talkSPORT (11 September, 10.30am).
The Mail broke the claims earlier this week that Foster Gillett had held talks with Mel Morris about potentially purchasing the Championship outfit, which is understood to be valued in the region of £60 million.
Derby have been in-and-around the play-offs during most of Morris’s four years at the helm, a remarkable achievement given the cost-cutting measures that have been going on behind the scenes in recent times.
The Mail claims that Derby are making losses of around £3 million a month and the East Midland giants have been forced to sell a number of key men, such as 2018 Player of the Year Matej Vydra.
But, according to White, Gillett Jr is not about to take over the reigns at Pride Park.
“We can rule that out. Its nonsense. Derby fans everywhere can relax on that,” said White, who has a good relationship with Morris.
Along with Tom Hicks, Gillett Sr dragged Liverpool into one of the darkest moments in their history, taking the six-time European champions to the brink of administration and, for a brief time during Roy Hodgson’s nightmare reign, near the bottom of the Premier League table (Liverpool Echo).
