Reports claim an approach for the former Rangers midfielder is imminent from the Ibrox outfit.
Jim White has shared what he has heard about Rangers’ alleged attempt to install Derek McInnes as manager at Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun reported on Monday that an approach from Rangers was due to be made within 24 hours, with the Daily Record reporting likewise on Tuesday .
But according to White, a spokesperson from McInnes’ club, Aberdeen, has told him they are yet to receive any enquiries.
“A spokesperson at Aberdeen tells me this morning: (there have been) no enquiries from Rangers, or anyone else, regards their manager Derek McInnes,” said the Talksport host earlier this morning.
It is approaching six weeks since Rangers sacked previous manager Pedro Caixinha, during which time McInnes has remained among the bookies’ favourites to return to Ibrox, where he spent five years as a player.
The 46-year-old, whose Aberdeen side suffered back-to-back defeats against Rangers this past week, was recently critical of his old side’s manager search and it remains to be seen whether he would return to Glasgow if an approach is made an accepted.
Another ex-Rangers midfielder Neil McCann and current Ibrox caretaker boss Graeme Murty are the other leading contenders with the bookies.
