The Celtic keeper pulled off an outstanding save on Saturday.
Speaking to The Scotsman, Ross County boss Jim McIntyre has praised Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon for his “incredible save” in the second half at Parkhead yesterday.
Celtic moved top of the Scottish Premiership with a 4-0 demolition of McIntyre’s side, with goals from Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele and two from James Forrest doing the damage.
On paper, it was a straight-forward win but it just might’ve been a different story had the visitors pulled one back at 2-0 down, and they would have if not for Gordon who pulled off an outstanding double-stop to keep out Craig Curran and Davis Keillor-Dunn.
Of course, Brendan Rodgers’s side went on to hit two more and see out the win, and McIntyre believes that the Scotland international deserves big credit for the incident.
“It was fantastic, especially the second part of it. It was an incredible save, but he is a top keeper,” he told The Scotsman.
“The sign of a top keeper is when you don’t have a lot to do and then you have to produce when it matters and he certainly did that.
“We had a good chance before their third goal when Michael Gardyne has a shot but we have three-on-one at the back area.”
That will do Gordon’s confidence the world of good.
It hasn’t been a great last two or three months for the veteran, who made a couple of errors in Scotland’s draw with England at Hampden Park in June, and hasn’t always covered himself in glory with Celtic this season.
But that will serve as a big reminder to him, if he had any doubts, that he can still be a “top keeper” as McIntyre said.
