Jim Duffy comments on Jimmy Nicholl to Rangers

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers will reportedly appoint Jimmy Nicholl as Gers manager Graeme Murty’s assistant.

Greenock Morton manager Jim Duffy believes that former Rangers defender Jimmy Nicholl would be a good appointment as Graeme Murty’s assistant manager at Ibrox, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.

Rangers will appoint former Northern Ireland international defender Nicholl as their assistant manager this week, according to BBC Sport.

The 61-year-old, who had two separate spells at Ibrox in the 1980s, is currently working as a number two at Scottish Championship club Falkirk and will leave after after Tuesday’s game against Dunfermline Athletic, according to the report.

Duffy, who is in charge of Scottish Championship club Morton at the moment, believes that Nicholl would be a good appointment at Rangers.

“Jimmy is a top-class coach and he will make an impact at Ibrox with the way he can support Graeme on the training pitch,” Duffy wrote in The Scottish Sun.

“But I think the most important thing Rangers will be getting is a personality who can help their young, inexperienced manager cope with the pressures of the job.”

Nicholl has a lot of experience, and that could help Murty, who was recently appointed as the Rangers manager until the end of the season.

The Ibrox club are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 40 points from 22 matches.

Rangers are as many as 11 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic and three behind second-placed Aberdeen.
