Liverpool took a first half lead but conceded late on to leave Old Trafford with a share of the points. Here’s how their players rated in the 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United.
GK: Simon Mignolet (8/10) – The Liverpool stopper prevented an Ibrahimovic thunderbolt free kick before finishing a strong first half performance by denying Henrikh Mkhitaryan shortly before the break. Mignolet’s confident showing continued in the second half, with a number of saves and assertive punches.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10) – The Liverpool rookie was called upon in the absence of England international Nathaniel Clyne – and after a shaky start, emerged as a steady and effective performer. Alexander-Arnold is certainly a big talent for the future.
CB: Dejan Lovren (7/10) – The central defender looked threatening from a succession of corners and set pieces afforded to Liverpool. Lovren undeniably had the better of Paul Pogba on numerous occasions and needed to be on top of his game to marshal Liverpool’s back line against United’s front man Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
CB: Ragnar Klavan (6/10) – Despite a handful of decent distributions, 31-year-old Klavan never looked fully convincing and possibly relied on Lovren’s presence on too many occasions.
LB: James Milner (8/10) – Alongside converting a 27th minute penalty to give Liverpool the lead, Milner put forth his usually resilient and reliable showing. The now established stand in left back really showed his worth in a second half permeated with United pressure.
CM: Emre Can (7/10) – The energetic Can is experiencing a below-par 2017 so far and is not showing his true worth in Liverpool’s midfield at the moment. However, the Germany international was disciplined enough as Liverpool engineered a share of the points.
CM: Jordan Henderson (6/10) – Despite demonstrating his work-rate and commitment to the Liverpool cause, captain Henderson offered many a stray pass and lacked the cutting edge required in the midfield battles with United’s standout, Ander Herrera.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum (7/10) – Offered important contributions in both defensive and offensive situations – but should have done better with a great opportunity to score, and take the victory, in second half stoppage time.
AM: Adam Lallana (9/10) – An outstandingly understated outing from Liverpool’s Lallana, who provided defensive cover, effective presses and energetic contributions to the visitors’ forward play. The England man has surely become one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team sheets this season.
AM: Roberto Firmino (6/10) – The Brazilian had an excellent opportunity to extend Liverpool’s lead, but Firmino’s second half strike failed to beat David De Gea in United’s goal. After a relatively disappointing first hour, Firmino notably improved upon being joined by compatriot Philippe Coutinho after 60 minutes.
FW: Divock Origi (7.5/10) – The 21-year-old’s pace and movement caused United’s central defenders, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, issues throughout. Origi justified his inclusion from the start in preference of Daniel Sturridge – and, after going 1-0 up, his performance helped stretch Liverpool’s attacking impetus on the counter. Perhaps surprisingly withdrawn for the quality influence of Philippe Coutinho (7/10) on the hour mark.
