Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with signing Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Marshall for some time.

Previous reports by the Mirror have Blackburn Rovers’ midfielder Ben Marshall linked with a transfer to Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on a fairly consistent basis, especially since former Rovers manager Paul Lambert took the reigns at Molineux.

Marshall is one of Blackburn’s key performers and, under different circumstances, would perhaps be a player that Rovers would be reluctant to dispense of.

However, Wolves are all too aware that the 25-year-old’s contract expires in a matter of months and, crucially, that Marshall has appeared to consistently rebuff any and every attempt by Blackburn to extend his contract.

Subsequently, Lambert finds himself in the midst of a bidding dilemma with his previous employers over the transfer of Marshall.

Having already rejected previous bids for the midfielder, Rovers head towards facing the decision to either sell to Wolves in January or retain a clearly unsettled player for the next few months and risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Wolves, meanwhile, may well opt to up their bid one more time before deciding that patience may be the best road to travel in order to land their target.

Further in Wolves favour, as a consequence of the transfer links to Molineux, Marshall was omitted from Blackburn’s squad to face Birmingham City last weekend; a possible sign that manager Owen Coyle appears to have lost patience with the ongoing saga.

Despite Lambert’s presumed eagerness, the prospect of signing Marshall to their ranks has not completely endeared Wolves fans if reaction on social media is anything to judge on.

Some supporters, upon considering the existing midfielders at the Molineux club’s disposal, evidently do not see the necessity for the signing.

Here is a taste of the reaction from Wolves fans regarding the potential signing of Ben Marshall.
