Fans of Derby County were light-heartedly quick to pick up on match-winning hero Will Hughes’ celebration and amnesic mistake on Twitter.

Derby County’s 3-2 victory over Reading saw the Rams climb to seventh place in the Championship table and continued manager Steve McClaren’s resurgence of the East Midlands club.

However, the afternoon’s proceedings did not begin well for McClaren, as Reading’s John Swift gave the visitors the lead after just 16 minutes – the first home goal conceded by Derby since September, and the first at Pride Park under the former England boss’ tutelage.

Derby’s equaliser arrived soon after, courtesy of an unorthodox Darren Bent strike, before the Rams took the lead just after the hour mark via Tom Ince’s ninth goal in 16 games.

Cue Will Hughes, making his 150th start for County, to step up and stretch Derby’s lead for what retrospectively proved to be a most crucial third goal – considering that substitute Yakou Meite would score Reading’s second goal in the 80th minute.

As if Hughes’ tidy finish was not talking-point worthy in itself, his Alan Shearer-esc celebration attracted somewhat of a humorous response amongst Derby fans on Twitter.

The man himself also contributed his thoughts to the day’s events – as Hughes expressed his delight with the three points via a Tweet that not only seemed to mock his celebration, but inadvertently – and incorrectly – referred to Derby’s home as its previous incarnation, the iPro Stadium.

The Rams, of course, play their home games at Pride Park, which admittedly had been known as the iPro Stadium. However, the club’s 7-year sponsorship agreement with the drinks company ended in November – a fact that was jovially pointed out by many a Derby supporter.
