Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester United. Here’s how Spurs’ players rated at Old Trafford.
GK: Hugo Lloris (7/10) – Marvellous save to deny Paul Pogba in the opening stages, but was helpless to stop Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s strike fly past him on 28 minutes.
RB: Kyle Walker (7.5/10) – Technically a right-back, but Walker’s performance was one of a right winger at times. The England international used space on Spurs right flank to encouraging effect and got the better of Anthony Martial on numerous occasions. Booked for a foul on the equally pacey Marcus Rashford in the second half.
CB: Toby Alderweireld (7/10) – In his first Premier League showing since picking up an injury in October, Alderweireld kept United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet.
CB: Jan Vertonghen (7/10) – Alongside compatriot Alderweireld, Vertonghen managed to subdue Ibrahimovic’s physical presence for the majority of the contest.
LB: Danny Rose (6.5/10) – Looked to get forward as often as possible, but Rose was unable to impact as much as his right sided counterpart Walker – and was booked for a foul on Mkhitaryan. May well have enjoyed his battles with the Armenian and Antonio Valencia on Spurs’ left flank.
DM: Victor Wanyama (5.5/10) – Had an outstanding chance to equalise in the second half but, despite being unmarked, fluffed his headed attempt off an Eriksen free kick. Aside from that, Wanyama suffered a poor display among the midfield quagmire.
CM: Mousa Dembele (6/10) – Unable to impact on the game as much as Dembele would have liked – as United’s trio of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Pogba won the midfield battles against Dembele and Wanyama. Dembele’s frustrating display was curtailed when Harry Winks (6/10) replaced the Belgium international after 66 minutes.
AM: Christian Eriksen (7.5/10) – Had a long range free kick saved by United goalkeeper David de Gea after 18 minutes, which set the stage for an Eriksen v De Gea show at various points throughout the encounter. Eriksen was Spurs’ most creative threat against United.
AM: Dele Alli (5/10) – A poor showing from the England international. Alli failed to provide adequate support to loan forward Harry Kane, did not impact on the game in any attacking way, and distributed several disappointing passes. This was definitely a game to forget for the youngster.
AM: Son Heung-Min (5/10) – Replaced by the powerful Moussa Sissoko (7/10) in the second half – mainly due to his almost anonymous performance. Despite his work ethic, the South Korean failed to make any inroads against United.
FW: Harry Kane (5/10) – Gave the ball away in the lead up to United’s goal and looked off the boil throughout the match. England front man Kane was isolated on too many occasions and was unable to test De Gea in the United goal.
