Queens Park Rangers’ Tjaronn Chery has requested to leave the London club in the January transfer window. We look at three possible destinations for the midfielder.

Queens Park Rangers look set to lose midfielder Tjaronn Chery after the player reportedly communicated a desire to leave the Championship side.

As reported by Sky Sports it is understood that a deal to end Chery’s stay at Loftus Road could be imminent after two clubs approached Rangers about his availability. Two of those clubs may include the likes of Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with fellow Championship team Newcastle United also an appropriate potential home for the want-away Dutchman.

Thus far, no specific reason has been provided for Chery’s desire to leave, but the 28-year-old has not been involved in any of QPR’s match day squads since the 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on 18th December – a game in which Chery was withdrawn in the second half despite Ian Holloway’s R’s chasing an equaliser.

However, the former Eredivisie star has been one of Ranger’s standouts in an otherwise disappointing season to date – having scored 14 goals in 59 appearances since arriving at Loftus Road in 2015.

It may be this proven ability to score goals in the Championship that could prompt the midfield-goal-shy Villa into bidding for Chery. Indeed, the Vila Park club only have one midfielder, Jack Grealish (3), who has found the net on more than one occasion, while Wolves manager Paul Lambert could be looking to improve his squad during his first transfer window at the club.

Another necessity for Chery may well materialise due to Villa and possibly more so, Newcastle, seeing a number of players absent at the Africa Cup of Nations during the early stages of 2017.

Villa may be without top goal-scorer Jonathan Kodjia (Ivory Coast) and the Ghanian midfield duo of Albert Adomah and Andre Ayew, whereas Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez faces the prospect of losing Christian Atsu, due to join up with Villa’s Adomah and Ayew, along with influential Senegal midfielder Mohamed Diame.

Whether Chery proves to be the perfect remedy for Wolves, Villa or Newcastle remains to be seen, but what does seem likely is that one of QPR’s main talents looks set for a Loftus Road exit.
