Derby County look to kickstart their faltering season when they take on Liverpool tonight in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The Rams have not had the start they would have wished for, winning just once from their first eight games in the Championship.

Tonight they take on high-flying Liverpool in the third round of the EFL Cup at iPro Stadium. It is fair to say a bit of water has gone under the bridge since their last clash on Boxing Day in 2007.

Fernando Torres, Sami Hyppia, Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard were all playing in that clash and they scraped a 2-1 win courtesy of a 90th minute Gerrard strike.

Although they have been in the second tier of English football since 2008, Derby still have nice a number of well known names in their current squad. The three discussed in this article each have a connection to Liverpool.

Will Hughes
