Derby County look to kickstart their faltering season when they take on Liverpool tonight in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The Rams have not had the start they would have wished for, winning just once from their first eight games in the Championship.
Tonight they take on high-flying Liverpool in the third round of the EFL Cup at iPro Stadium. It is fair to say a bit of water has gone under the bridge since their last clash on Boxing Day in 2007.
Fernando Torres, Sami Hyppia, Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard were all playing in that clash and they scraped a 2-1 win courtesy of a 90th minute Gerrard strike.
Although they have been in the second tier of English football since 2008, Derby still have nice a number of well known names in their current squad. The three discussed in this article each have a connection to Liverpool.
Scott Carson

Although he played second fiddle to Jerzy Dudek and Pepe Reina at his time with Liverpool, Scott Carson is someone that will be recognisable to most Reds fans.
The 31-year-old former England goalkeeper has been somewhat of a journeyman playing for nine clubs throughout his career. He signed for the Rams at the start of the 2015/16 season and has been solid at his time with the Midlands club.
Tom Ince

It is hard to believe Tom Ince is still only 24. In reality he should be coming into his prime as he has undoubted talent, but questions remain over his attitude. Ince has not been in manager Nigel Pearson’s starting lineup in the couple of weeks, but Tuesday night represents a outstanding chance to get his season and possibly his career back on track.
Ince would love nothing more than to perform against the club he played for as a youth player.
Will Hughes

Will Hughes was viewed as the one of the hottest properties outside the Premier League a couple of seasons ago. Sadly for the 21-year-old, he suffered a knee ligament injury that saw him miss the majority of last season, ending the chance of a move for the time being.
Now he is fit, expect clubs to keep a eye on the exciting midfielder once more and Liverpool are one club that has been heavily linked to Hughes in the past. The boyhood Reds fan will be looking to catch their eye this evening.
