Stoke City extended their Premier League unbeaten away record with the 1-0 defeat of Watford.
Stoke City fans took to Twitter to express their happiness after their team inflicted a first Vicarage Road defeat since August for Walter Mazzarri’s Watford – with two particular players being lavished with praise.
The game’s decisive moment came in the first half. Following a 29th-minute Charlie Adam header from a Xherdan Shaqiri corner, the ball rebounded off the base of Heurelho Gomes’s post, with the Watford goalkeeper then helpless to prevent the ball from rolling off him and into the net.
Frustratingly for Mazzarri, Stoke went on to have the better of the encounter and could have built on their lead in the second half.
Attempts from Giannelli Imbula and Bruno Martins Indi may have resulted in further goals, and a result that neither side could have argued against.
Stoke denied Watford the opportunity to rise to sixth in the Premier League standings, on a day that provided a sense of frustration for the Hornets. Stoke boss Mark Hughes was seemingly ignored by Mazzarri at full-time, and the game was permeated with fouls and four yellow cards for the hosts, who also saw defender Miguel Britos sent off.
Stoke supporters were delighted with Hughes’ side’s performance and the accumulation of all three points, which sees the Potters rise into the top half of the Premier League table, focusing their praise on Martins Indi and Imbula.
