Here is how we expect Southampton and Crystal Palace to line-up ahead of their midweek Premier League meeting.

Southampton welcome Crystal Palace to St Mary’s Stadium for a Premier League encounter that is permeated by injury problems for both sets of managers.

Southampton currently sit in tenth place in the top flight, whereas Crystal Palace – despite being buoyed by their excellent weekend victory over Premier League table-toppers Chelsea – remain cautiously peering over their shoulders, in 16th place, at the emerging relegation quagmire.

Indeed, heading into this midweek fixture, it will be Sam Allardyce’s Eagles who would value the three points more than his Southampton counterpart Claud Puel.

Unfortunately for Palace, Allardyce will be unable to cal upon a plethora of injured first team players – with the latest additions to the Selhurst Park treatment room being Patrick Van Aanholt, James Tomkins and Scott Dann. The trio of defenders join the longer term absentees of goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, left back Papa Souare, midfielder Mathieu Flamini and forward Connor Wickham.

However, Southampton have their own injury concerns that influence their potential starting line-up against Palace. The recently talismanic striker Manolo Gabbiadini is sidelined with the injury suffered against Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Sofiane Boufal is a doubt following an injury sustained in training.

In addition to squad members Matt Target and Jeremy Pied, the Saints are unable to call upon forward Charlie Austin (shoulder) and standout defender Virgil Van Dijk (ankle) for Wednesday evening’s match.
