Stoke City fell to a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Leicester City.
Goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy provided Leicester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League victory – continuing manager Craig Shakespeare’s 100% winning record in charge of the Foxes.
Conversely, the defeat maintains Stoke City’s poor record of three away wins all season – with just four points collected on their travels away from the Bet365 Stadium since early December.
Despite Leicester’s turnaround in fortunes and Stoke’s struggles on the road, however, it seems that Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross received a significant portion of the game’s reaction on Twitter – following a late challenge on Leicester’s Demarai Gray.
The solitary-capped England international defender, who was infamously involved in a serious leg break suffered by Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey in 2010, was cautioned for a lunge on Gray – after the Foxes’ winger had already accelerated the ball beyond the 29-year-old Shawcross’ reach.
Many observers of the challenge subsequently took to social media to express their reaction to Shawcross’ clash with Gray – with comparisons being drawn to Roy Keane and Vinnie Jones, alongside the inevitable references that can follow a poor challenge regarding the credentials of ‘that sort of player’.
