The topic of debate regarding the future of Arsenal’s longest serving manager appears to have made its way Stateside.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger

The status of Arsenal’s manager, one could assume, would be far from the thoughts of Major League Soccer fans at the quietest of times, let alone during the drama of what unfolded at Minnesota United’s TCF Bank Stadium at the weekend.

MLS has just completed its second week of the 2017 season – with the league now expanded to 22 teams for its 24th year. The most recent additions to MLS is Minnesota and Atlanta United – who, after both experiencing losses in their opening game last week, faced off against each other in week two.

The game was notable for many factors – not least the 6-1 scoreline in favour of the visitors from Georgia, but also the heavy snowfall that increasingly engulfed the encounter from the very first minute.

Although, despite the plentiful fanatics from both sets of supporters towards the captivating match events, one such spectator found an opportune moment to extend the evolving narrative around Arsene Wenger’s future as manager at the Emirates Stadium.

In a rather unexpected photo, one presumably disgruntled Arsenal Minnessotan is seen holding a placard with the phrase ‘Wenger Out’ alongside a picture of the legendary Gunner’s boss.

Admittedly, Arsenal are experiencing far from the ideal Premier League and European campaign – with Wenger’s side recently falling to a 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and currently sitting in fifth place in England’s top flight; running the potential risk of not qualifying for the 2017-18 Champions League.

However, surely the clamour for a Wenger exit from a fan watching a team that is only two games old – and more than 4,000 miles away – is a step too far?
