Leeds United secured all three Championship points with a 2-1 victory over Bristol City.
Pablo Hernandez proved to be Leeds United’s pivotal performer during their 2-1 defeat of Bristol City.
The Spanish attacking midfielder was at the heart of many of Leeds’ best phases of the Championship encounter – becoming the driving force behind the Elland Road outfit ending their two-game losing run.
Hernandez provided the assist for goal-getter Chris Wood’s opener after 27 minutes, before getting himself onto the scoresheet with the game’s differential goal in the early stages of the second half.
Opponents Bristol bagged a late consolation via forward Milan Djuric’s strike – but the spoils belonged to Leeds, leaving the Robins looking precariously over their shoulder at the dreaded Championship relegation line.
Conversely, Leeds’ relief at the victory was clear to see – none more so than on the face of Hernandez, as shown in some emotive photos, upon scoring what would turn out to be the game’s winning strike.
Garry Monk’s Leeds side may well have seen a greater winning margin, had they been awarded a penalty following a strong claim, and if Wood had been slightly more clinical on front of goal. However, the three points were more than a welcome aid in consolidating Leeds’ Championship play-off position, with the Peacocks sitting in fifth place on 57 points.
