Nottingham Forest’s eventful off-field season continued on Friday evening with the hiring of Frank McParland.

Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of former Rangers’ Head of Recruitment Frank McParland to the role of Director of Football.
McParland, who has initially joined the club until the end of the season with the intention of a permanent role thereafter, arrives at the City Ground after departing Scottish Premiership club Rangers last month – at the same time as former Gers manager Mark Warburton and coach David Weir left the Ibrox outfit.
Not only did McParland and Warburton help Rangers return to the upper echelons of the Scottish football pyramid, but the duo also worked together effectively at Brentford prior to their move north of the border.

Indeed, Warburton’s availability has been an issue for discussion amongst many a Forest supporter – with the general consensus being that McParland’s appointment may well be the ideal facilitator for Warburton to take the vacant managerial role at the City Ground.
Forest have been without a manager since Philippe Montanier was sacked by the club in January – with academy manager Gary Brazil taking the reigns in an interim capacity.

To further compound the relative chaos of Forest’s organisational structure under the ownership of Fawaz Al-Hasawi, McParland’s Director of Football role has also been vacant in recent months – following the resignation of previous incumbent, Pedro Pereira, in October.
The impact of the Al-Hasawi tenure has seemingly transferred itself onto the pitch, as Forest’s inconsistent season currently sees the team on a four game losing run and placed precariously above the Championship relegation zone in 18th position.

However, after the relative embarrassment of the recent rejection of the managerial position by Burton Albion’s Nigel Clough, the prospect of any double appointment of McParland and Warburton seems to have grasped the enthusiasm of the approving Forest fans on Twitter.
Here’s a taste of the reaction from Forest fans on Twitter to the appointment of Frank McParland as Director of Football.
