‘Jewel in their crown’: BBC pundit says Arsenal is ‘best bet’ in signing ‘wonderful’ player

Rory Smith has stated that if Paulo Dybala moves to England, then signing for Arsenal would be the ‘best bet’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The BBC pundit and journalist added that Dybala, who is out-of-contract at Juventus at the end of the season, is a ‘wonderful’ footballer to watch.

But Juventus’ ‘jewel in their crown’ could be headed for the Turin exit door for next to nothing, after failing to agree on a new contract, according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

As a result, the 28-year-old’s name has been linked far and wide, from the Premier League to La Liga, including Champions League-chasing Arsenal.

Come the summer, Dybala will be one of the main talking points of the transfer window, as Rory Smith explained why certain clubs in England might not sign him, despite his ‘brilliant’ talents.

“Dybala is the most high profile and desirable (of Juve players out-of-contract),” said Smith.

“Juve seem confident that they can wait until May, sit down and have a chat and it will be fine. They are taking a risk because he is the jewel in their crown. Dusan Vlahovic would probably be a contender for that. They seem slightly laissez-faire about renewing him, which I find very surprising, and generally, he signs a new contract.

“The thing with Dybala is he is quite a specific type of player. He’s not quite a number ten. I do wonder where you put him in that 4-3-3, which most teams play. He’s not really a high-presser, which rules out Liverpool or possibly Man City.

“He is a brilliant footballer, Dybala and wonderful to watch. I don’t know where he would fit in. Maybe Arsenal would be the best bet, I guess.”

Dybala will turn 29 later on this year and he isn’t the out-and-out striker that Mikel Arteta or Arsenal are looking for.

There is no doubt that he would add serious flavour to this young, vibrant and ever-improving Arsenal side.

But, given his age and the wages he may command, from that sense, he doesn’t suit what Arsenal have been doing under Arteta.

Perhaps, if the Gunners secure Champions League football, then they will look for read-made players, in which case, Dybala would be a fantastic purchase, especially on a free.
