Tim Sherwood has claimed that Raphinha is the ‘jewel in Leeds United’s crown’, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (09/04/22 at 8:50 pm).

The former title-winning midfielder added that Raphinha is also Leeds United’s ‘best player’.

During what has been an indifferent and largely injury-hit season for the club, someone like Raphinha has managed to remain strong and pretty consistent out on the pitch.

The 25-year-old netted his tenth Premier League goal of the season as Leeds beat Watford 3-0 on Saturday, as Jesse Marsch is now unbeaten after losing his first two opening matches.

Nonetheless, this is what Sherwood had to say about Raphinha, as he produced the goods again for his club.

“Raphinha is a player,” said Sherwood. “He is their best player. He is the jewel in the crown of what they have got going forward and he takes that brilliantly on his left foot.”

The worry for Leeds fans will be whether they can keep hold of their South American star.

Whilst there is a lot of talk about Kalvin Phillips’ future, because he is a boyhood Leeds fan, many within the club won’t be too fussed about losing him because he will probably extend his stay as soon as their safety is confirmed.

But, it’s different for Raphinha and his outstanding performances this season, when things haven’t been going well for the team, will only put more spotlight on him as a player.

Either way, Marsch’s life will be a lot easier if Raphinha is still in Yorkshire when the first ball is kicked next season.
