Quoted by the Chronicle, new Newcastle United signing Jesus Gamez has claimed that the Magpies are considered as a big club in Spain.
The defender completed a move to St James’ Park on Friday as they secured his signature from Atletico Madrid.
He is their fourth signing of the summer, following the captures of Matz Sels, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle last week.

Some fans have questioned why he has made the move, wondering why he would leave last season’s Champions League finalists for a team competing in the Championship next season.
The Spaniard has rubbished such talk though, stating that in Spain Newcastle United are perceived as one of the big clubs.
“It’s one of those big clubs and in Spain we consider Newcastle as one of the big teams,” the Chronicle quotes him as saying.
“It has a historical club that has had the misfortune of finding itself in the Championship this year but it needs to be in the Premier League because that’s where it’s history and potential is.”

It now remains to be seen whether Gamez can help to get Newcastle back into the Premier League next season.
They will certainly be among the favourites, and indeed the bookmakers have already universally named them as the side they expect to win the division.
Their signing so far this summer suggest they are determined to do just that, and Gamez will be keen to play a big part in helping them achieve that goal.
