Tennis is dealing with a tense moment right now, as the sport’s top players and its biggest tournaments are clearly not on the same page.

The Grand Slams have long been the pinnacle of tennis, offering the highest prize pools and carrying the most prestige on the calendar.

Even so, many players feel that prize money still doesn’t match the financial returns these tournaments actually bring in.

Sabalenka had initially talked about skipping Roland Garros entirely but eventually joined others in a brief media walkout as a form of protest instead.

And with Wimbledon releasing their 2026 prize fund numbers, all eyes were on how players would respond.

While it seems that might be enough to keep things calm for now, attention has already shifted towards what New York will offer when it comes to money. And if there are more issues there, tensions could escalate quickly once again.

Jannik Sinner could lead a mixed doubles boycott at US Open

The US Open is widely seen as the most commercialised of the four Grand Slams, generating huge revenues over its three-week run in New York. Players have often felt that the financial benefits don’t always reach them as fairly as they’d like.

Discussions are already underway about how players might respond this time, and there are early signs of what form that could take.

Jannik Sinner has emerged as a possible figurehead for the movement, with reports suggesting he may sit out of the mixed doubles event to make a statement.

This particular move, though, doesn’t seem to be universally known among the top ranks just yet.

Jessica Pegula is unlikely to join Jannik Sinner’s US Open protest

Despite Sinner’s involvement in the movement, Pegula appears set to play in the event as usual.

After her semi-final victory over Aryna Sabalenka, Pegula told reporters she intends to compete in the US Open Mixed Doubles and will again pair up with Jack Draper.

Pegula and Draper were a popular pairing last year, reaching the semi-finals and gaining plenty of support along the way.

However, during that same press conference, when asked about a potential boycott, Pegula gave the impression she thought it was only Sinner who planned to skip the event.
