Lindsey Vonn has shocked the sporting world after claiming her 83rd World Cup win and first since 2018.
Vonn was named the downhill skiing World Cup winner at St Moritz in Switzerland, becoming the oldest champion at 41.
The American superstar retired back in 2019, but made a return in 2024, and is now back to winning ways.
Vonn finished the event in one minute and 29.63 seconds, which was almost one second faster than runner-up Magdalena Egger.

She has now taken to social media to celebrate her stunning success, writing on Instagram: “Win #83! This might be the best and most meaningful win of my career! Don’t ever stop believing in yourself!
“Words can’t begin to describe today… I’m still processing and probably will for a while. For now, I want to thank my team for helping me get here.
“Every single person played a role and I couldn’t be more proud to work alongside all of you! Plus we had 7 athletes in the top 30 today! All around amazing!
“Also congrats on your first podium Magdalena Egger and Mirjam Puchner on [bronze]. Now off to bed… tomorrow is another race.
And many in the tennis world were quick to respond, with legendary figure Maria Sharapova commenting: “So inspiring!”
Naomi Osaka wrote: “Congratulations” as her fellow WTA star Jessica Pegula wrote on her Instagram story: “Amazing!”

Vonn has clearly transcended her sport, with her actions catching the eyes of many superstars across other disciplines.
The messages of support weren’t limited to tennis, with MotoGP icon Marc Marquez writing: “Incredible” and basketball star LeBron James writing on his Instagram story: “41. Built different.”
Despite her age, Vonn clearly isn’t planning on stepping away again anytime soon, with another Olympic appearance in her sights.
She has one gold and two bronze medals to her name so far, and is on track to represent the USA at the 2026 Olympics.
