Jesse Marsch was without seven first-team players against Wolves last weekend, but he has told his Leeds press conference on Sunday that three injured players will be set to return – while Dan James has served his suspension.
Last weekend, Leeds produced a 2-1 win over Bruno Lage’s squad. That is, despite being without Liam Cooper, James, Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, Adam Forshaw, Luis Sinisterra and Junior Firpo. But four of those are now available.
As stated, James is back from suspension following his red card against Chelsea last season. He played in the Under-21’s win over Derby last Friday. Meanwhile, three injured players are now back in training and available for action.
Marsch confirms captain Cooper is back after an achilles problem – picked up on a treadmill. Sinisterra is also back in training, ahead of schedule, after suffering a hamstring issue during a pre-season friendly against Crystal Palace.
Finally, midfielder Forshaw is also back after an injury also sustained in Australia against Palace. It leaves Ayling, Dallas and Firpo on the sidelines – but Marsch confirms that Ayling and Firpo are only a couple of weeks away.
“Adam, Liam and Luis are in training and available [for Southampton on Saturday]. Junior is a couple of weeks behind, the same with Luke Ayling. Stuart Dallas was on the pitch today too,” Marsch said before taking questions.
Marsch: Three injured Leeds players set to return
A huge boost. Something Leeds fans are not often used to, to hear good news regarding injuries. But to have Sinisterra back, more depth on the bench in Forshaw and the club captain back in the dressing room is an enormous boost.
All three are likely to be on the bench given the way Leeds played last weekend. But it hands Marsch much more options. Depth from the bench, as well as welcoming James back after suspension, ahead of Southampton.
