Jesse Marsch is backing Leeds United’s pursuit of Brenden Aaronson and has urged Andrea Radrizzani to bring the £20 million America international to the Premier League, as reported by The Star.
Now, Red Bull Salzburg don’t often stand in the way of their star players when offers arrive.
Erling Haaland, Patson Daka, Dominik Szoboszlai, Takumi Minamino and Hwang Hee Chan have all been sold on since January 2020.
But this year was different. This year, Salzburg had a Champions League tie with Bayern Munich to prepare for.
Never before had an Austrian side reached the knock-out stages of Europe’s elite club competition. And, given the strength of their opposition, Salzburg were in no mood to cash in on Aaronson ahead of arguably the biggest continental fixture in the club’s entire history.
Marsching on Together
Salzburg turned down a £15 million bid from Leeds United in January (Athletic).
Come the summer, however, the 15-time champions will be more receptive to offers. Offers that, following the appointment of Jesse Marsch, are almost certain to arrive from Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Wicsonsin-born replacement worked with Aaronson at Salzburg after all.
The admiration between player and coach is mutual too, Aaronson describing the 48-year-old as a ‘great guy’ during their time together in the shadows of the Alps.

According to The Star, Marsch has informed Radrizzani of his desire to work with Aaronson again in West Yorkshire. Furthermore, the one-time Celtic target has made it clear that he would relish the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
At the risk of setting ourselves up for a fall, it would be a surprise if Aaronson was not a Leeds player in time for 2022/23.
Tailor-made for Leeds
“The relationship (between Aaronson and Marsch) is great,” explains Fabrizio Romano, believing a potential £20 million move to Elland Road is more likely than ever for the former Philadelphia Union talisman.
“Let me say, and it’s good news for Leeds fans, many players speak very highly of Jesse Marsch.”
Aaronson, the so-called American Havertz, has produced five goals and nine assists from his favoured attacking midfield role this season.
