Jesse Marsch told Thursday’s press conference – as per the Leeds YouTube – that Kristoffer Klaesson can be relied upon if needs be after his debut. He told him he deserved his moment at Molineux, before he came on.

Klaesson, 21, made his debut for Leeds having joined the club last summer for £1million (Athletic) from Norwegian side Valerenga. He failed to make his debut under Marcelo Bielsa but was called upon in Marsch’s third game.

Illan Meslier had gone off after a collision with Raul Jimenez, which saw the latter sent off. Klaesson came on and made a couple of saves, in order to give Leeds the basis to pull off their stunning 3-2 comeback win at Wolves.

Marsch told his media conference that he spoke to Klaesson, just before he came on, saying he had deserved the opportunity due to his work rate in training. He says that after his debut, he can now count on Klaesson.

“I told Kristoffer when he came on he trained well, that mentality that he will do whatever he can to be the best he can be, now is the time to reward that. He came up massively, now I know if we need him, he is ready to go.”

Marsch on Klaesson: Leeds star has rid himself of prior doubts

When Leeds fans saw Klaesson enter the fray for Meslier against Wolves, already 2-0 down – there were doubts aplenty. Klaesson had made a number of mistakes in the Under-23 side. But he was superb against Wolves.

Leeds were stunning at Wolves. They had Klaesson to thank for standing up, in a crucial game, away from home, performing like he had been playing in the Leeds side for years. Marsch is right, he can be relied upon.
