Jesse Marsch has told his Leeds press conference on Thursday that Mark Jackson is an “amazing guy” and it feels like the two have known eachother for years. Jackson has been promoted into the first-team coaching set-up.
Marsch, 48, held his first press conference as Leeds manager since signing on the dotted line to replace Marcelo Bielsa. The American gaffer has penned a contract at Elland Road until 2025, as announced on Monday.
His backroom staff was then announced moments before his press conference. Frankie Scheimer reunites with Marsch as his assistant, after working together at Salzburg. Jackson has been promoted from 23’s boss.
Andrew Taylor replaces Jackson on an interim basis, and the latter will now be tasked with a first-team coach role alongside John Toshack’s son Cameron. Marsch raved about the 44-year-old on Thursday afternoon.
“I’ve only been working with Mark Jackson for a couple of days but it feels like we’ve known eachother for years – and he’s an amazing guy. He even remembered we played against each other,” Marsch said.
Marsch on Jackson: Leeds coach could be a real help for new gaffer
Whenever a new manager arrives at a new club, and specifically when it is the first time managing in that country, they need a man alongside them that knows the club, the division. Jackson looks to be that man for Marsch.
Leeds-born, and a former Leeds player, Jackson is ideal to add to his coaching staff. Having sparkled as manager of the 23’s, he certainly deserves it. He could really boost Marsch’s time in charge.
