Jesse Marsch has told Friday’s press conference that Ian Poveda could still leave Leeds United this summer on loan, despite featuring in training on Thursday – and Marsch complimenting the winger’s work rate.
Poveda, 22, was not a part of the Leeds squad that traveled to Australia for the pre-season tour. It comes after returning from a loan at Blackburn last season early, after sustaining a broken leg with the Lancashire club.
The ex-Manchester City attacker has two years remaining on his Leeds contract. Jesse Marsch has waved goodbye to a number of fringe players including Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell on loan.
In a video posted by Leeds of training ahead of Sunday’s clash against Chelsea, Poveda is involved. However, Marsch says that the winger could depart before the end of the summer window – despite his work rate.

“Ian has not been easy for him. Not featured too much, Worked hard every day. Likely we find another solution for him, but not set in stone. Want him to find a place to play,” Marsch said, as per Leeds Live.
Marsch: Poveda could still leave Leeds before summer deadline
Ultimately, the London-born star needs to go. Leeds have Jack Harrison, Dan James, Luis Sinisterra and Crysencio Summervilla above Poveda in the pecking order at Elland Road. Rodrigo and Brenden Aaronson can also play wide.
So, Marsch is unlikely to use Poveda – who has also given up his no.7 shirt for new signing Aaronson. Reports state that Poveda has interest in him from Championship, MLS and Spanish clubs and a move could materialise.
A player that Marcelo Bielsa once described as “great”, he clearly has not realised his potential. The injury has not helped. The mentality and the work rate is there but the best move for his career right now, is a loan deal.
