Jesse Marsch has told a press conference – as per Leeds Live – that he has been challenging Leeds star Dan James to play on the right flank instead of his favoured left-wing position, after his stunning display against Brisbane Roar.
James, a £25million (Athletic) signing from Manchester United, has endured a difficult start to life at Elland Road. Just four goals came his way last season. But he was excellent on Thursday during a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar.
The Wales international, featuring in his first friendly since Wales duty in the summer, opened the scoring. A brilliant low drive from the right, with his right foot. Then, he chipped a glorious ball to the back post for Joe Gelhardt.

A superb display from James, which lasted only the first 30 minutes before he was replaced by Luis Sinisterra. Marsch spoke after about James, saying he has challenged the Wales ace to play on the right, not his favoured left flank.
“I’ve been challenging him to play a little bit more on the right, so he can set himself up on his right foot and make some final plays, which he did tonight. He had a really good performance,” Marsch said.
“We have a lot of good and flexible attacking players. It’ll just be a matter of creating chemistry and understanding of roles. Having a lot of attacking weapons is something you need to be successful.”
Marsch challenging Leeds star James to play on the right
There is a vacancy on the right. Raphinha has left for Barcelona. Luis Sinisterra came on on the left flank on Thursday and that is where he played for Feyenoord. So, it might be, that Leeds need someone permanently on the right.
Sinisterra is likely to end up there, with Jack Harrison such a crucial part of the side on the left. But while Sinisterra adapts to the Premier League and Leeds, James might have a chance to establish himself on the right.
