Jesse Marsch reportedly nears managerial return after Leeds axe

Jesse Marsch could make a return to management with the United States national team – and that would mean coaching Leeds United players.

Gregg Berhalter managed USA at the World Cup in Qatar but left his post under a cloud of controversy earlier this year.

A replacement hasn’t yet been appointed although Anthony Hudson – Berhalter’s assistant – is in caretaker charge.

New USMNT sporting director Matt Crocker is on board having arrived from Southampton in April.

Marsch is now the top target for the job, which makes sense after Crocker wanted to lure him to Southampton.

Talks over a move to the Saints broke down in February and Marsch also saw a move to Leicester City collapse last month.

It may now be that Marsch will take a break from domestic coaching after being sacked by Leeds in February.

This would be a real coup for the USMNT and Crocker will hope to have Marsch secured soon.

If Marsch does become the USA boss, he will be charged with the task of progression after a last 16 finish at the World Cup.

Securing USA-eligible Arsenal talent Folarin Balogun would be a great start but Marsch would also be reuniting with some of his old Leeds players.

Defensive midfielder Tyler Adams will be key for the USA for a long time.

The Leeds star worked under Marsch at New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig, so he should be vital.

Then there is Brenden Aaronson, who followed Marsch to Leeds last summer.

Whilst Aaronson has been a little lightweight in the Premier League, he is still one of USA’s top talents.

Weston McKennie is a particularly interesting case though having joined Leeds to work with his fellow American Marsch.

Leeds sacked Marsch just a week later though and McKennie has failed to impress Whites fans.
