Jesse Marsch has praised both Helder Costa and Ian Povedaas per the Yorkshire Evening Post – for their commitment and work rate in Leeds United training, but admits that both wingers are likely to leave the club.

Costa and Poveda returned from loan spells at Valencia and Blackburn last season, but are seemingly not in Marsch’s plans. Indeed, both were left in Yorkshire as the club embarked on their pre-season tour of Australia.

Poveda’s no.7 shirt has been given to Brenden Aaronson. However, both players were on the bench on Sunday as Leeds beat Cagliari 6-2 – but no subs were used. Jesse Marsch gave the starting XI 90 minutes.

The game was used as preparation to give the starting players 90 minutes ahead of next Saturday’s first league game against Wolves. The subs, then, were made up of Under-23 players and outcasts – including Poveda and Costa.

Speaking after the match, Marsch praised the two midfielders for their work rate in training. He applauded them despite stating there is “uncertainty” regarding their future, and hinted they will be leaving the club.

“I think they’ve done a really good job with the uncertainty of the situation, really working hard in pre-season and being part of the group, and then I don’t know, we’ll see how that moves forward,” Marsch said.

Both need to go, simple as that. Leeds have lost Raphinha, but with Marsch’s system, the wingers are inverted – allowing the likes of Aaronson and Rodrigo able to play out wide. Luis Sinisterra has been signed.

Crysencio Summerville is coming through and the club still boast both Dan James and Jack Harrison. So, Leeds are well-stocked in the wide positions. Costa and Poveda are not involved despite warming Sunday’s bench. Need to go.

Reports say Poveda has interest from MLS, Championship and Spanish clubs.
