Jesse Marsch has told Friday’s press conference – on the club’s YouTube channel – that he is “not surprised” that Leeds sporting director Victor Orta is linked with a move to Chelsea, but is desperate to see the Spaniard stay.
Orta, 43, has been exceptional in his role as the club’s transfer chief. Some of his highlights include the signings of Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Luis Sinisterra, Raphinha and Illan Meslier – the latter for just £5m.
At Chelsea, the London club need a sporting director that can establish some order and a project to their work in the window. In the summer, new owner Todd Boehly oversaw transfers – and was accused of a scattergun approach.
Chelsea are showing interest in bringing Orta to Stamford Bridge, as per The Telegraph. Asked about the future of Orta at Elland Road, Marsch praised Orta by saying he is not surprised regarding the links. But wants him to stay.

“I’m not surprised he has been linked to Chelsea. I can unequivocally say he is happy here and we have an incredible relationship. Along with Andrea and Angus, we have worked well together in the transfer window,” Marsch said.
“It has set us up for success. I hope he stays. Things come up, people have opportunities. People have to think what is best for them in their lives – and find a way. The togetherness here is at the highest level I have ever seen.”
Marsch ‘not surprised’ Orta is linked with a move to Chelsea
It would be a huge blow if Orta did leave for Chelsea. He has been the heartbeat of the modern Leeds, making some excellent signings. It was he who suggested bringing in Marcelo Bielsa. Then, of course, Jesse Marsch.
But if Orta did decide to leave for Chelsea and the Blues became serious about raiding Elland Road for their transfer chief, he would go with the blessing of Leeds fans. He has given so much, passionately. A big loss, if he does go.
