Jesse Marsch has told Wednesday afternoon’s press conference – as per Leeds United’s YouTube – that he is more “interactive” than Marcelo Bielsa. The American is set for his home debut as manager on Thursday night.

Marsch, 48, took over at Elland Road 10 days ago and in his first match, Leeds fans saw an improved performance away at Leicester. Despite the 1-0 loss, there were plenty of positives in the club’s battle against relegation.

There have been differences drawn between Bielsa and Marsch by onlookers, his preference to play zonally instead of man-marking. Also, his use of a 4-2-2-2 system, which came into play later on against Leicester.

But Marsch shared a major difference that takes place more, behind the scenes at Thorp Arch. He believes he is more interactive than Bielsa, which could help the Leeds players – especially as he is an English-speaking boss.

“I’m more interactive I think, not just to Marcelo but to many coaches. They’re getting a better understanding, the learning curve is getting quicker. There is a long, long, long way to go yet,” Marsch said.

Marsch on Bielsa: American’s approach will help Leeds players

Being able to be a bit more hands-on, one that can be more approachable will firstly improve morale. It will see Marsch become one of the team, perhaps more so than Bielsa. Being hands-off has it’s benefits, too.

But with 11 games to play, Marsch needs to convey his ideas as soon as possible and being able to speak to his players interactively as much as he can, more so than Bielsa, will help the Leeds squad adapt quicker.
