Jesse Marsch faced the media as the manager of Leeds United for the first time on Thursday, and he did have some good news to share.

It’s been doom and gloom at Leeds, and while a new manager would often bring about a new dawn, the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa has left a bitter taste in the mouth of many Leeds fans.

Marsch is the manager now, and while he’s not changed Leeds’ fortunes as of yet, he did have some good news to bring the fanbase during his first press conference.

Indeed, the American confirmed that Patrick Bamford was back in training on Thursday after another lengthy injury layoff.

What’s been said?

Marsch gave an update on Bamford and some of his other injured players.

“On that note, Patrick Bamford was in training today. Kalvin and Liam are both making progress, they won’t be ready for the weekend, but they’re making progress and getting closer to being in team training, and then we have a bunch of other guys who’ve missed a little bit of training this week and we’re trying to evaluate the risk and rewards of these players and how many minutes are appropriate for them to perform on Saturday,” Marsch said.

Perfect start

Marsch may be a talented manager, but if he’s to succeed over the next few months at Leeds, he’ll also need a bit of luck.

Fortunately, it seems as though Lady Luck is smiling down upon the American this week as Bamford is back in training.

Leeds have desperately missed the Englishman this season, and if he can return to the XI and start scoring goals as he was last season, Marsch’s job will be that much easier.
