There was a point when Jesse Lingard looked like he might be the centrepiece of Manchester United’s future, but his career hasn’t quite gone to plan since then.
After coming up through the academy, Lingard broke into the senior squad during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge, scoring one of his most famous goals to win the 2016 FA Cup final.
Before last weekend’s 3-2 win at Arsenal, it was Lingard who had scored in Manchester United’s previous away victory over Arsenal. That game remains a clear memory for many fans.
It was also that match where Lingard celebrated with his dance at the Emirates, poking fun at Arsene Wenger’s side. The irony wasn’t lost last weekend when Matheus Cunha repeated history with a dance of his own.
Now, Lingard is back in the spotlight with talk of a new club move.
Jesse Lingard linked with a move to Serie A

Lingard recently confirmed that he would be leaving FC Seoul after two years with the club.
The 31-year-old had some good moments in Korea, but his departure has left fans wondering what comes next for him.
The Daily Mail now reports that Lingard is nearing a move to a new club.
The report notes that the former England international has been in contact with several British clubs, including teams from the Premier League.
But it seems his next step might take him outside England, as advanced talks over a move to Serie A are said to be ongoing.
There’s no word yet on which Italian side is interested, but it’s unlikely to be one of the top clubs in the league.
Even at 31, Lingard still has plenty to offer. Italy could suit his game well, though much will depend on whether he’s motivated for a fresh start or just seeing out his career. One thing’s for sure: if he brings back even half of the form he once showed at United, he’ll be an asset wherever he lands.
Jesse Lingard’s career after Manchester United
Lingard left United in 2022, feeling like he’d been left behind under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with no real place in the team by the time Erik ten Hag took over.
He joined Nottingham Forest as a free agent rather than returning to West Ham, despite his successful loan spell there.
Following an unremarkable season at Forest, Lingard spent half a year without a club. Then Seoul came in and gave him a chance. He ended up repaying that faith with 19 goals and 10 assists across 67 appearances.
Now, he’s heading into another new challenge. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it this time around.
