Jese Rodriguez returns to Stoke City training; has a message for the fans

The Spanish forward, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has not played since November because of family reasons.

The Stoke Sentinel is reporting that Jese Rodriguez was back in Stoke City training on Sunday after spending time in Spain on compassionate leave.

The Paris Saint-Germain loanee was given permission to be closer to his son Nyan, who required specialist care after being born prematurely last summer and was in hospital over Christmas, according to The Sentinel.

Jese returns to the Potteries with Stoke having sacked Mark Hughes and appointed Paul Lambert as their new manager, winning the Scotsman’s first game in charge 2-0 against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Marca claimed in December that the 24-year-old wanted to end his spell with Stoke and find a La Liga club for the rest of the season, with Las Palmas, where he spent the first half of 2017, mooted as a possible destination.

However, Jese’s most recent post on Instagram suggests that he is ready to play his part under Lambert. The Spaniard also thanked his 2.3 million followers for all of their support throughout his family ordeal.

Jese posted a picture of him at Stoke’s Clayton Wood training ground with the message: “Good to be back in training, can’t wait to be out there helping the team. Thanks to all of you for always supporting me.”

The former Real Madrid forward made the last of his nine Stoke appearances in a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in November, but has failed to have much of an impact since scoring the winner against Arsenal on his debut in August.

Lambert is not blessed with attacking options and will be pleased to have Jese back in the fold.
